What’s Happening in Kindergarten?

There’s always a lot happening upstairs with the Kindergarteners and this time of year is no exception!

The Kindergarteners have been working hard on their first PBL lesson – their “All About Me” presentations. The students are given their posters to bring home to add pictures, artwork and list interesting facts about themselves. The students then have to schedule their presentation date. If they sign up for a day that doesn’t work for their parents, they learn how to reschedule their presentation. Before scheduling, they also have to decide if they want to be first, last or somewhere in the middle and the class talks about that. The children all learn what it means to be a “Super Speaker” and a good audience. Each child presents their poster to the class and the parents in the audience and then answers questions from classmates. The class is then asked what they have learned about the speaker from the presentation. This helps the students start to learn how to be good presenters and good audience members.

The Kindergarten classes have all been participating in Music for Minors, learning basic music concepts like beat and tempo.

And finally, the Kindergarten classes are beginning to learn how to write stories using a method called “The Write Tools”. The lesson shown is an introduction to Number Notes which teaches story sequencing. The students are writing about the three things they like to do on the playground.
