6th Grade PBL – Age of the Earth Timeline

PBL for Young Minds
When Roosevelt started using PBL, there was little information for an elementary PBL model. Challenges included shorter attention spans, less ability to work independently and creating specific curriculum, rubrics and standards. Since 2008, we have developed an award winning program that meets the specific needs of our students.

Research
Studies comparing learning outcomes for students taught via PBL versus traditional instruction show that PBL increases long-term retention of content, helps students perform as well as or better than traditional learners in high-stakes tests, improves problem-solving and collaboration skills, and improves students’ attitudes towards learning.

Awards
Since integrating PBL into all classrooms benefiting all students, we are proud to see our hard work recognized. Our PBL program has been recognized with the following awards:

2016 California Gold Ribbon School Award by the California Department of Education
2013 Golden Bell Award by the California School Boards Association
2012 J. Russell Kent Award by the San Mateo County School Boards Association
