About this Blog

This is a blog for the parents of children attending Roosevelt Elementary in Redwood City and anyone interested in Project Based Learning at the elementary school level.

The blog is written by the parents of Roosevelt elementary and posted information is gathered from teachers, students and parents.  If you’re a parent at Roosevelt and would like to see something on the blog or have information to share, please let us know.  We can always use more pictures from the classrooms or school events.  If your child has brought home a piece of art or a project that you’d like to have posted, by all means, let us know!

In 2010, after a two year pilot program, Project Based Learning (PBL) was approved by the school board to be offered school wide for the 2010/2011 school year.  In 2012, the RCSD school board voted to add 6th, 7th and 8th grade, making Roosevelt the only K-8 school in the district offering PBL. Roosevelt’s first 8th grade class graduated in 2014 and they were the 3rd highest scoring class in the district.

A lot of changes have been happening at Roosevelt since the adoption of PBL in 2008/2009.  At Roosevelt, PBL focuses on the core academics, with an emphasis on Social Studies and Science. Students learn to work cooperatively, think critically and present their work in front of an audience.

If you are a parent in the district and you’re interested in learning more about Roosevelt, you can contact the school office at 650.369.5597 or email our principal, Dr Rosemary Wood. If you have any questions that you want answered by a current Roosevelt parent, you may email us at rooseveltblog@gmail.com

Take a look around this blog to see the exciting things going on at Roosevelt!
