Keep checking the Parent Blog!
Make sure to bookmark our blog – www.rooseveltparents.com. If you have anything that you would like to have posted on the blog, please let me know.  Make sure to check it regularly since the content there is updated frequently and sometimes a question will be posted to get your opinion on an issue.  If you have any photos or videos of activities and projects, send them to me and I’ll put them on the site. One feature that many of you will find useful is the Translate option. On the right hand side of the blog is a box that says “Translation”. Just click on the language of your choice and the entire blog will be translated into that language for you using Google translator.

Book Swap…
Ms. Tsuchiyama’s 4th grade class is still collecting books for their February Book Swap.  Please bring in any used books (in good condition) to your child’s classroom and the 4th graders will take care of the rest!

Save the Date…

“Toy Story 3” Coming to Roosevelt January 28
Don’t miss Family Movie Night on Friday, Jan. 28, featuring “Toy Story 3”! Bring blankets, pillows or sleeping bags to get comfortable on the floor in the multi-use room. You may drop off your items in the multi-use room as early as 6:15, but we ask that everyone waits outside till the doors open at 6:45. The movie will start at 7pm.

Please note that all children must be supervised by an adult. Admission is free but you may want to bring money for snacks. We’ll be selling bags of popcorn and bottled water for $1 each and big candy bars for $2. All proceeds support the Roosevelt PTA.

Hope to see you there!

Literacy Night – January 24
ELAC is sponsoring a school wide Literacy Night on Monday, January 24 from 5:00-6:30. There will be a main presentation on ways to make your child a better reader and then there will be smaller workshops for the parents. This is an event for all Roosevelt parents. Workshops will be available in English and Spanish. Look for more information to come in the following weeks.

Restaurant Fundraiser – January 25
Look for a flyer for a fundraiser at Chuck E Cheese on Tues, Jan 25!

Drug Awareness Night – February 28
An officer from the Sherrif’s department will be coming to Roosevelt for a presentation on drug awareness on Monday, February 28 from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Please note: because the officer will be bringing items associated with drugs, this is an adult only event, but childcare will be available in the Champions Room.

Be on time…
I know that the cold and dark mornings are making it especially difficult to get out of the house on time, but the ELAC and PTA contest is still going for the class who has the most students that arrive on time to school each morning through January 31st. The winning class will have a pizza party!

Fundraising…
The Boys vs Girls BoxTops contest will be starting soon! The prize for the winners of this contest is an extra recess! Each Box Top that Roosevelt turns in earns $.10. So keep cutting out those Box Tops!

The Parent Room…
Thanks to the hard work of Lorena Mello, Letitcia Naranjo, Valerie Romero and Edith Alvarez, the Parent Room (Room 11) is looking great!  The bookshelves are full of wonderful parenting books on all sorts of topics – discipline, children’s self esteem issues, divorce, death, recipes for kids, pregnancy information, etc. as well as current magazines.  There’s also a children’s area with a play kitchen, books, games, puzzles and coloring books.  Please feel free to come on in and take a moment to read, have a cup of coffee or just relax!   Remember to be considerate of the classrooms around you and keep noise to a minimum.  And remember to clean up before you leave.

Have a great week!
